Kinshasa, DRC : Monday, April 5, 2021

National Aviation Services (NAS), the leading aviation services provider in emerging markets, launched operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) this week. Following the award of a new ground-handling license in DRC last November, NAS has collaborated with Congo Handling Services (CHS) to serve flights at Kinshasa, Lubumbashi and Goma international airports in the country.

NAS launched operations at N'djili Airport in Kinshasa serving 76 flights per week out of the airport. The company is currently serving Kenya Airways, DHL, Ethiopian Airlines, Uganda Airlines and FlyCAA with other major carriers to be added shortly. Operations will also kick off at Lubumbashi and Goma International Airports in the near future.

Hassan El-Houry, Group CEO of NAS said, “We are excited to partner with CHS to launch our ground handling operations in Africa’s second largest country. In the midst of a pandemic, we have been successful in securing a new license and launching operations in a new location. Developing air transport can open up access to DRC, which in turn will contribute greatly to the economy. By bringing our knowledge and expertise to airports in DRC, we are keen to enhance the aviation sector and help drive economic growth in the country.”

NAS operates across 50 airports in Africa, the Middle East and South Asia serving more than 100 airline customers and managing more than 50 airport lounges. Following the highest international aviation standards, NAS also holds a number of global certifications including IATA’s Safety Audit for Ground Operations (ISAGO) that highlights the company’s promise of providing high quality services, with a strong focus on safety and security.

El-Houry explained, “NAS global experience combined with strong relationships with international airlines will go a long way in enhancing airport services in DRC. This includes making the airports comparable with world-class standards with a focus on innovation, efficiency and safety.”

As part of NAS’s commitment to the country, the company will also invest into the development of infrastructure, equipment, technology and human capital in the company. While retaining the existing employee base, NAS will provide in-depth training to update their skills and knowledge. The company will also create job opportunities for the local youth to offer them new career options in the aviation sector.

El-Houry highlighted, “At NAS, people are at the core of our business, our real assets. In DRC, we have inherited over 300 new employees to further grow our NAS family of more than 8,000. By training them further, we will not only enhance our services but also invest into their future career development.”
